From this morning the Ministry of Agriculture will be making rice available for as low as $325 per gallon, significantly cheaper than the $600 consumers have been forced to pay from the beginning of this year.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) release from around 10 am today rice will be sold daily to consumers at the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) located at the corner of Robb and Alexander streets, the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB), Cowan Street, Kingston and the Guyana Rice Project Management Unit (GRPMU) located at 18 Brickdam.
The release said that millers will be required to make rice available in agreed quantities for local consumption which is about 4,500 to 5,000 tonnes per month.
