A 15-year-old boy was remanded, pending a probation report, after he pleaded guilty to breaking and entering but not guilty to simple larceny.
The teenager, who said he was from Berbice but was staying with his grandmother in Plaisance, pleaded guilty to stealing one Compaq computer, one DVD player, one Panasonic VCR and clothing, a total value of $286,000, from the home of Pauline Barker.
The teen entered Barker’s house on Robb Street on January 23, while she was at work. She received a phone call, went home and found him on the premises. The missing items were recovered and lodged at the police station.
However, the boy pleaded not guilty to another charge of stealing one shoulder bag from Alana Suknanan in front of the Stella Maris Nursery School.
He appealed to Barker with tears streaming down his face to “feel sorry” for him when Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle told him that the crime carried imprisonment. The magistrate remanded him until probation officers could make contact with his relatives, since he was unrepresented and alone in court.
