Dear Editor,
On January 21, 2008 I went to the GPL to enquire why my light was disconnected and was told I have not paid my November electricity bill.
When I enquired how I could pay a bill I have not received I was informed it was posted since the second of January. Today the 24th I still have not received the November electricity bill.
At the GPL I met several persons who had paid their light bills a day or two before the light men arrived at their homes and when they presented their receipts their power was still disconnected and they were informed they had paid late. How ridiculous.
The GPL charges $3200.00 to reconnect a resident’s electricity, a half week’s pay for the working class man and woman. I have been dealing with GT&T for over twelve years and the establishment has never failed a month to send me a bill on time.
And please don’t tell me about going to GPL to find out how much you owe if you have not received a bill, that will take up at least half of a working day and don’t even try the telephone with GPL, it does not work that way.
If the GPL feels the post office is not efficient in delivering their bills then go back to what the old GEC used to have, its own delivery men or women.
Finally I would like to say that those who cannot afford to reconnect their electricity will have to resort to kero bottle lamps which will most likely keep the fire fighters busy.
Yours faithfully,
WP George
