Four people were yesterday placed on bail of differing sums after they were allegedly involved in a neighbourhood brawl on January 14.
Two siblings were charged with assaulting a man, while the man they are accused of assaulting and his wife were also charged with assault.
Jermaine Miller, 23, of 2075 Nevis Street Festival City was charged with unlawfully and viciously wounding Gregory Griffith, 32, while his brother Jason Miller, 21, was also charged with unlawful assault of Griffith. Griffith, a self-employed chef was charged with unlawfully assaulting both brothers, while his wife Faith Griffith was charged with unlawful wounding so as to cause bodily harm of Jeremy Miller another brother of the two mentioned above.
According to Griffith’s lawyer, the incident started when the brothers verbally abused Griffith’s wife. He complained to their father and asked him to talk to his boys.
However, Griffith was outside weeding on January 14 when he was allegedly confronted by no less than seven young men. He alleged that Jermaine, a customer service representative at Qualfon East Coast Demerara, chopped him on his lower left hand, a wound which he showed the magistrate and on his back, while Jason tried to stab him. He was also cut on the third and forth fingers on his left hand.
Jeremy Miller told the court that Griffith’s wife lashed him in the head with an unknown object and he blacked out. The boys’ father also said that Griffith ‘broadsided’ him at the back of the neck with a cutlass. Magis-trate Melissa Robertson-Ogle placed Jermaine and Jason Miller on $20,000 and $10,000 bail respectively. Griffith was placed on $10,000 bail for each separate count of assault and Faith Griffith $15,000 on her charge of assault. The case was transferred to Court Five for February 8.
