Vision Guyana yesterday condemned the killing of innocent people at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, and noted that “anytime we have loss of innocent lives it makes the nation sad.”
Vision Guyana in a release also called for an economic solution to crime, and contended that many Guyanese are suffering at the hands of the government because of the heavy taxation.
Chairman of Vision Guyana Peter Ramsaroop proposed an economic stimulus package that includes a public-private partnership to develop what he called “real opportunities” where people can have jobs. The organization also observed that the economic situation in many villages is “at an all time worse,”
Ramsaroop’s plans, the release stated, calls for micro loans to citizens for business ventures, a significant reduction in income tax and VAT. Specifically, he is calling for a “reduction to 7% which will equal the real need of the government since they collected over 40% more than they thought they needed. In addition, an increase of the tax threshold to $50,000 which will deflect the significant rise in inflation is needed.”
Saying that an entire overhaul of the tax system is needed, the release stated that without investment in “our police force (pay, weapons, intelligence)and a government that concentrates on making the lives of our citizens better with focus on security and economics, the current situation which includes innocent killings may continue.”
Vision Guyana said further that it will work with the family of the innocent lives that were taken away to assist them as much as possible.
