Dear Editor,
I write to categorically condemn this vicious, cowardly act of murder of 11 innocent Guyanese, including children, carried out no doubt by deranged and demented gunmen. Guyanese of all ethnic groups must condemn this wanton and horrendous attack on other innocent Guyanese.
We must not let terror deter us from nation building. At this time in the mist of anger it is easy for some to feel the need to retaliate. We must urge restraint.
Quite obviously this act is orchestrated to ferment ethnic tension and possibly warfare in our country. We must not let these cowards succeed. As Guyanese we must be careful not to let a few take us down the road of ethnic warfare. We have seen what such actions have done to other nations, most recently Kenya. Let us together save this beautiful country Guyana.
We must in this time of grief go to our churches, temples, mosques and other collective sites of prayer and pray for those innocent Guyanese who have lost their lives. Let us remember them and honour their lives by pursuing peaceful outcomes.
I call on the police to spare no effort in pursuing these criminals and bringing them to justice.
Yours faithfully,
Dennis Wiggins
