The Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) in expressing its categorical condemnation of the slaying of 11 citizens at Lusignan last Saturday said all peace loving Guyanese should speak out against this atrocity and the government must take immediate corrective measures to avoid any recurrence.
The union in a press release also called on the government to accept the offers of the diplomatic community which are designed to address crime in Guyana.
In this regard, the GPSU urged that “there should be no reservation in involving the FBI, Scotland Yard and other credible policing agencies since they can make a meaningful contribution to addressing deficiencies which are patently apparent among existing local agencies.”
Moreover, the union expressed its admiration for the fortitude of the families and relatives in the face of their loss and the magnitude of their distress. “Their display of courage, resilience and responsible posture of calm, calling for peace and harmony to prevail, while not allowing themselves to become victims of hatred for their fellow Guyanese, is truly magnanimous.”
The union noted that on Tuesday at its statutory meeting, out of respect for the victims of the Lusignan massacre, a minute of silence was observed and it extended deepest sympathy and condolences to the grieving families and relatives.
