Dear Editor,
I am enraged at the President’s inability to offer any solutions to the crisis facing our country. In his meetings with the East Coast citizens he claims that little or no help has been forthcoming from the other governments. Well Mr President, can you tell us why other countries have been able to secure outside help while you have failed? Why is it that Trinidad’s police force has a number of retired British policemen? Can you tell us specifically what help you asked them for or should we ask them ourselves? Incidentally, now that Mr Kerik can no longer offer his service to the nation, can we not find anyone else?
Further, Mr Jagdeo was asking the citizens of this country for help and advice, implying that he has done all he can do. Well Mr President what about the hundreds of recommendations in all the various reports gathering dust somewhere? How many of them have you implemented? What about the SWAT team that was promised years ago?
This government is asking for people to stay calm and be reasonable. Well, Mr President, the only thing that would calm the citizens is for you to act decisively and show some courage in dealing with the criminals.
Yours faithfully,
Shane Ithaca
