Under fierce pressure to do something about crime following the massacre of 11 persons, the government yesterday began a massive drive to clear backlands bush from Enmore to BV/Triumph and offer compensation to those affected but Buxton residents were already incensed about the damage they will sustain.
The condition of the backlands in several East Coast villages has triggered renewed concerns following the slaying of 11 people including five children at Lusignan two weeks ago. During a meeting with residents of Mon Repos one day after the shooting, President Bharrat Jagdeo was urged to take swift action to clear the backlands of Buxton and surrounding communities.
