Treasurer of the Mayor and City Council, Roderick Edinboro has been sent on leave to facilitate an investigation by a team from the Office of the Auditor General into alleged financial irregularities.
A press release from the Office of the Mayor yesterday stated that after a few days’ work, the Auditor General has recommended in order for the audit team to fully discharge their responsibility without hindrance and to facilitate a proper and complete investigation, that the City treasurer proceed immediately on leave.
“This was endorsed by the Council at their specially summoned Statutory meeting of January 31, 2008, and consequently Mr Roderick Edinboro has proceeded on leave.
The duties of City Treasurer are now being carried out by Mr Andrew Meredith the Municipality’s Accounting Manager,” the Mayor’s press release said.
The investigation into the workings of the City Treasurer’s Office at City Hall was launched as a consequence of concerns expressed over time and a motion that was approved by the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown, at their statutory meeting of January 14, 2008, the release said. Contacted last night Edinboro did confirm that he is on special leave but denied knowledge of any financial irregularities.
He made the point that the investigation wasn’t focused on him personally, but on his office. Edinboro said that he has documents to support that he did nothing wrong and these he was willing to share.
