The Organising Committee of the inaugural Hugh Ross Classics and members of the Executive Committee of the Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) have ironed out their differences with respect to the staging of the Hugh Ross Classics bodybuilding competition scheduled for April.
According to a release the two bodies met on Wednesday evening at the Bank of Guyana building to deal with the issue of the sanctioning of the championship.
On Saturday, organizers of the Hugh Ross Classics, headed by president of the GABBFF Andre Poonai, held a press conference to deal with the upcoming tournament but the GABBFF in a press release stated afterwards that the tournament had not been sanctioned by the body.
Chairman of the meeting and secretary of the GABBFF, Bruce Whatley, last evening told Stabroek Sport that he was very happy with the outcome of the meeting which was dubbed ‘The Way Forward’ noting that the GABBFF had no problems in principle with supporting the championship.
“A number of issues were raised at the meeting including the question of whether or not (Andre) Poonai knew of the constitution of the GABBFF. He acknowdeldged that the constitution of the GABBFF was breached and in so doing, the Organising Comnmittee and the public was misled.”
Treasurer of the GABBFF Fiona Harris last evening stated:” That the organizing committee of the Hugh Ross Classics did confirm that they erred in the premature launching of the event and promised to make a public apology to the GABBFF.”
“A decision was also taken that they would submit the proper
documemntation on the event for the GABBFF to peruse and approve,” Harris said.
The organizers have agreed that they would re-submit the letter that was sent earlier as well as the budget and other related documents to the Federation by tomorrow and both parties have agreed to work together to bring off a successful championship that will see the entire country supporting one of its heroes.
The Hugh Ross Classics is set for April 20 at the National Cultural Centre and will see the best body builder, male and female competing for attractive prizes and other incentives.
The overall winners in each male category will clash for the Mr. Hugh Ross Title.
