Cyclists will get their first taste of road competition this year when the National Sports Commission (NSC) organized Mashramani Road Race takes place on Sunday from the Demerara Harbour Bridge to Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo and back to the starting point for the finish.
The first six finishers will each receive prizes, while there are six prime prizes up for grabs during the course of the race. Special prizes will also be awarded to the first two Junior cyclists to complete the distance which is the first 40-miler of the year.
Expected to raise the level of competition are senior road race champion Alonzo Greaves along with junior champion Christopher Holder. However, they can expect stiff opposition from the likes of Leer Nunes, Raymond Newton, Junior Niles, Enzo Matthews, Chris Persaud, Jaikarran Sukhai and Robin Persaud.
In the veterans category, Linden Blackman will be looking to maintain his supremacy over opponents such as Compton Persaud, Aubrey Greavsande and Kennard Lovell.
All cyclists are reminded to wear their respective club colours and to have their licence.
