Dear Editor,
On Friday 2008 -01- 11, twenty-two speed humps were placed on Independence Street La Grange, West Bank Demerara by individuals employed by the Region Three Administration or the Ministry of Works. Residents of Parfaite Harmonie and its environs are questioning this action since it is ridiculous to have 22 speed humps throughout a 3.7 kilometer main access road.
As a commuter using this road twice daily I have to endure the torture of the vehicle I am in riding all these humps to get in and out of my community. Sometimes I feel upset or I get headaches after a sudden stop and a hump every 30 seconds. In addition, as a vehicle owner I may soon find myself regularly digging deep into my pockets to replace the suspension on my vehicle.
I am not aware of any concern for speeding drivers or frequent accidents in this area that may warrant this move and I would urge the relevant authority to remove some of these humps especially since they were not erected with any consideration for emergencies.
Yours faithfully,
Debra Gill
