Dear Editor,
I would like to correct your statement in SN 02/09/08 that “Late response by the police to major crimes has been a recurring issue over the last decade “. This has been going on from the late 70’s early 80’s. SN wasn’t born then, but I was in Berbice as a child growing up hearing the police would come two to four hours after. So it’s been three decades now of the same thing.
Do you remember the Albion uprising, and how the President moved policemen to other parts of the country? This is the same thing Mr Rohee is talking about. It’s insane! They keep doing the same thing expecting different results.
People’s safety should be the most important issue for the government and to motivate the police force. The police force should be attracting people of the highest integrity and paying them well. We need intelligence not numbers.
Yours faithfully,
Ravindra Diadat
