Two men accused of robbing a goldsmith of over $5M in cash and jewellery at Parika, East Bank Essequibo earlier this month were remanded to prison when they appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Hamilton Dickinson, 20, and Errol Johnson, 42, both of Bounty Hall, Essequibo Coast pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery under arms and were remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.
It is alleged that on February 3 at Parika being armed with a gun, they robbed Ahmad Salim of a quantity of gold jewellery valued $5M and $275,000 cash. Reports are that Salim, who is a goldsmith, was exiting his bus at Parika when he was confronted by two men who held him at gunpoint. They relieved him of a briefcase containing the items and escaped.
On Monday, the duo was seen at the Parika market by the Virtual Complainant (VC) who called the police and the men were arrested. The VC identified the men as the persons who had robbed him and one of the rings was reportedly recovered from Dickinson. Following investigations, the men were charged.
The duo will return to court on March 11 at Leonora.
