I am now convinced that the majority of Buxtonians can be classified as dedicated farmers. The meeting with the agriculture minister was testimony, some one hundred farmers turned up. This has cleared up doubts many had including myself of those very people being discriminated against and victimised.
One women indicated that she was forced to cultivate her crops on the dam. This led me to believe that every square inch of land was occupied by the remaining farmers. She wondered if she would get any payment for her loss because she was actually farming without the requisite permission and relevant documents.
I am of the opinion that the Buxtonians are productive and industrious people. How then could the PNCR try to say otherwise of these people? If these people were involved on such large scale farming why did they allow the bushes to take over the land?
If some one hundred odd farmers were in the backlands on a daily basis, obviously they had to confront the criminals from time to time. I am certain if asked none of those dedicated farmers would accept ever seeing any of those criminals. I am confident if a survey is conducted from Industry to Mon Repos all the villages included do not have so many farmers. Therefore the Buxtonians have a good chance and great opportunity to develop themselves and become self sufficient.
