Hockey Board AGM now set for March 4

The planned Annual general Meeting (AGM) of the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) which was to have been held on Tuesday was postponed owing to a lack of a quorum, but outgoing President Philip Fernandes disclosed that March 1 had now been set as a new date for the meeting.

Fernandes told Stabroek Sport yesterday that there was the lack of a quorum but members of the GHB present at the meeting discussed plans for the meeting and a way forward for the GHB.

Named the Most Improved Association for 2007 by the National Sports Commission, the GHB is expected to send a national under-21 team to the Junior PanAmerican Hockey Championship later this year in Trinidad and Tobago.

Fernandes had told Stabroek Sport that the GHB was pursuing the acquisition of a hockey centre which would be equipped with an artificial pitch.

Strengthening the Junior Development Programme of the GHB is also of the cards for 2008.

The GT&T sponsored national indoor championships ended last Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with Old Fort being crowned men’s champions, while Hikers won the ladies’ title.
