Dear Editor,
I refer to Mr. Kamal Ramkarran’s letter captioned “Disappointed that a serious newspaper would dabble in gossip” (08.02.14).
I would like to remind Mr Ramkarran that Mr Lall is a public state official. The Stabroek News did not set up a hidden camera in the Minister’s home or peep through some window like those paparazzi in the developed world, Mr Lall aired his “private” dirty laundry in a public place and, in this age of technology, it was captured on camera.
What is the gossip that Mr Ramkarran talked about? The incident actually happened and was rightfully reported by the Stabroek News. I see highly respectable news organizations (New York Times, BBC, CNN, Reuters etc.) reporting on trivial shortcomings of celebrities and other public officials all the time.
If Mr Ramkarran is genuine in his assertion, then he would be “very disappointed” with every major local and international news organization.
Yours faithfully,
Clinton Urling
