“I don’t like to make predictions to be honest with you, I just let my riding do the talking, but I am looking at breaking the track record on Sunday,” Canadian Super Bike champion Kevin Graham told Stabroek Sport.
The 38-year-old rider was speaking to this newspaper after his rapport with the students of Sophia Special School yesterday in Sophia.
Graham, who is here to compete in the Super Bike category when the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) holds its Mashramani Race of Champions at the South Dakota circuit on Sunday, was conducting the final lap of the Sunburst Orange Juice promotional tour, courtesy of Continental Group of Companies – manufacturers of Sunburst Orange Juice.
“I have stopped competing professionally since 1999 and only race about two times a year and both of these times are right here in Guyana which is to me, a home away from home,” Graham stated.
“Having said that, there is still some good competition in the events as there is Stephen Vieira from Guyana and Craig Atkinson from Canada who are all riding well at the moment, but I will be going as fast as I can on Sunday and have some fun in the process. “My preparation for the meet has been great. I arrived in Guyana yesterday and got in some valuable track practice this morning. I did 30 laps on the bike and it felt great. The mechanics worked assiduously to get it in top shape for Sunday. They are a great bunch of guys,” Graham quipped.
“I am just looking forward to the meet on Sunday where my bike sponsored by Continental Group of Companies under the Sunburst Orange Juice brand will do some talking as I attempt to break the track record.”
Graham who visited the Carmel Community High School yesterday, had earlier enjoyed a friendly chat with the students of the school as he highlighted his riding experiences with them. And among other things he urged the students to concentrate on their studies in order for them to realize their dreams in life.
“It does not matter what you choose as a career field when you get older. What matters the most is your educational background that will go along with that field of your choice. Once you have set your eyes on that goal, don’t let anyone prevent you from attaining such. You and only you alone must be your deterrent,” Graham advised.
