Top Guyanese lady golfer Christine Sukhram placed a creditable fourth in the prestigious Carnation Ladies Golf championship held at the St. Andrews Golf Club in Trinidad and Tobago recently.
Competing against a field of 65 golfers drawn from several Caribbean territories including Antigua, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname, Sukhram playing in the first flight with a 6 handicap, recorded a gross 85 on the first day and 81 on the second to finish with a total gross of 166.
Twelve golfers competed in the first flight which was won by Trinidad and Tobago’s Kelsey Lou Hing who won on a count back from compatriot Pauline Raynor.
Hing and Raynor finished the two-day competition on 157, but Lou Hing emerged victorious on the basis of her round of seven-over-par 79 on Sunday, compared to the overnight leader Raynor, who shot 80 on the final day.
Aleema Jack was third with 165, courtesy scores of 83 and 82.
Emilie Ramsahai earned a three-stroke win in the Second Flight (gross) with a total of 169 (86 and 83), with Violet Roopchand next on 172 (85 and 87), Charmaine Stewart third on 174 (86 and 88) and Sandra Montano fourth on 176 (89 and 87).
And, in the Third Flight (gross), Hanka Wolterstroff prevailed with a tally of 201 (100 and 101), followed by Rachel Mouttet 202 (98 and 104), Cathy Evans 207 (113 and 94) and Phyllis Mohammed 209 (103 and 106).
Sukhram’s trip was made possible through sponsorship by Banks DIH Ltd. and she expressed gratitude to the local beverage giants for their support.
Sukhram retained the Smirnoff Vodka Guyana Open ladies championship last November at the Lusignan Golf Course and now looks forward to the local season which has been pushed back due to recent events in the village of Lusignan.
