The mother of missing Friendship teen Tenisha Morgan, who reported to the police several days ago that her daughter had contacted her and said she was stuck on a dam, changed her story on Thursday after she was confronted with telephone records that showed several inconsistencies.
A high-ranking police official told Stabroek News last evening that there seemed to be some irregularities over who first supposedly spoke to the teen and when this was done.
This newspaper was told that the girl’s mother, Waple Morgan, had told the police that her daughter first called a friend and the second time the teen allegedly called, she was fortunate to be next to the friend and when the instrument was handed to her she recognised her daughter’s voice on the other end. She is now saying that when the call was made the friend was not around and that the call was received on her niece’s telephone. Frequent attempts by Stabroek News in the last week to contact Waple Morgan have failed.
Stabroek News was informed that the phone call has not yet been traced and the police are still carrying out their investigations in spite of the changes in the woman’s story.
On Tuesday, the woman contacted the police saying that her daughter had made a telephone call and said she was stuck on a dam surrounded by bush with a river on one side.
On January 18, the teen, who was heavily pregnant, had travelled to Georgetown to stay with relatives in Kitty until she was ready to deliver. However, while at the Berbice bus park she began experiencing labour pains and was reportedly placed in a taxi by public-spirited citizens. That was the last time she was seen. The police are still seeking the help of the public to locate two men who they believe may aid them with their investigations into the teen’s disappearance.
Late Tuesday night, police issued a wanted bulletin for Manu Durant called ‘Manu’, a 34-year-old Friendship, East Coast Demerara resident.
A minibus driver, who may have assisted Morgan at the Berbice bus park on the night that she disappeared, is also wanted for questioning by the police.
There has been speculation that Morgan is the girlfriend of Guyana’s most wanted Rondell `Fineman’ Rawlins, but her relatives have repeatedly denied this.
Anxiety began to spread when a man purporting to be Rawlins called the police and threatened to retaliate if the missing teen was not found.
