Casting for the Guyana Fashion Xpo begins tomorrow, as the designers behind the anticipated fashion extravaganza search for the right looks for the catwalk.
Models have already been registered and will face the heat as designers Roger Gary, Michelle Cole and Trevor Rose screen and select. They are looking for good skin, good hair, a certain height and an overall package, according to Gary who is currently in the country to tie up this leg of the project.
Gary who is one of Guyana’s hottest exports to North America told The Scene earlier this week that they are looking to cast around 60 models – 40 females and 20 males. He said they are asking that the models be 5’6′ and above, nothing shorter. After they have the selected models training is expected to be begin and follow-up workshops with the models.
He revealed that the team had to abandon the idea to have the Demerara Harbour bridge be transformed into a catwalk after permission was not granted. They had already contacted the Guinness Book of World Records and were hoping to create history, he said, but things turned out differently.
However they are focused on the Xpo, which is set for April 26 and 27 at Splashmins and have already raked in some hot overseas designers. Gary said those confirmed for the show are Kimya Glasgow of St Vincent, Nana Boatany of Ghana, Dremd Fashion of Jamaica and Keisha Pieters of St Maarten. He said the local designers who have signed on are Olympia Small-Sonaram, Deryck Moore, Pat Coates, Climax Designs and Andrea Braithwaite. Facts & Roses along with Gary’s designs are also to be showcased.
Gary and the Fact & Roses team are promising a fashion show like no other come April.
