A Ruby, East Bank Essequibo man who was severely beaten at his home last week Thursday died the following day at a private hospital and police on the West Demerara have arrested four persons including a female relative.
Habiboodean of Lot 111 Ruby died at the Woodlands Hospital on Friday afternoon after being beaten by an unknown assailant at his home. Stabroek News was told that on Saturday one of the man’s relatives went to the Leonora Police Station with a lawyer and was arrested.
A close relative told this newspaper that sometime between 1 and 2 pm on Thursday, a man went to the businessman’s residence and reportedly assaulted him. The relative said that nothing was taken from the house neither was it ransacked. According to reports, during the attack Habiboodean was knocked unconscious but one hour later he regained his senses and contacted relatives. The man was subsequently rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The man’s family then moved him to Woodlands where he was admitted and underwent a CT scan. At Woodlands medical personnel reportedly told relatives that he needed surgery since he was hemorrhaging in the brain. However this was not done since he had undergone surgery at the Georgetown hospital and his condition was listed as unstable. Relatives said that Habiboodean’s face was swollen, his jaw broken and there were other marks of violence on his neck and chest. Relatives said that he had spoken to them at the hospital and while acknowledging he was beaten by a man he said he could not recognize the person. A post-mortem is expected today. Habiboodean leaves to mourn seven children along with thirteen siblings.
