Whitney Welcome hammered home five goals as Bartica trounced West Demerara 6-0 as the Pepsi Cup Inter Sub-Association Under-17 football tournament continued last weekend.
Playing at the Dem Amstel ground, West Demerara failed to capitalize on their advantage and the menacing forward Welcome, scored in the 2nd, 23rd, 37th, 45th and 77th minutes of play.
He received valuable support from Dwayne Blake who netted in 60th minute for the determined Bartica side.
Berbice also thrashed a hapless East Bank side 6-0 after leading 3-0 at half time at the Bath Settlement ground in West Berbice.
Jamal Joseph scored a hattrick of goals in the 9th, 35th and 38th minute while teammates Elvis Mitchell scored in the 56th and 61st and King Archer in the 58th minute. Berbice leads Group A with seven points and Upper Demerara has four points while East Coast and East Bank have one point each. Bartica and Georgetown are tied in Group B with six points each while Essequibo and West Demerara are yet to come off the mark.
In the other scheduled fixture, Georgetown gained a walkover from Essequibo in their match slated for the Camptown ground.
Blake and Welcome both of Bartica are tied as the leading goal scorers in the tournament to date with a total of five goals apiece, Jason Cobena of Upper Demerara, follows in third position with three goals to date.
Upper Demerara and East Coast Demerara will clash at the MSC Ground in Linden and Bartica will meet Georgetown at the Bartica Community Centre Ground, both matches to be played on Saturday.
The semi-finals are scheduled for March 9 at venues to be named.
The tournament was organized by the Guyana Football Federation and sponsored by Demerara Distillers Ltd. under the Pepsi brand.
