The Caricom Secretariat says it is appalled at the senseless and brutal killings at Bartica and most strongly condemns this barbaric crime.
In a press release the Secretariat said the incident “is especially painful coming as it does at a time when the nation is still deep in grief caused by a similar traumatic experience of 26 January in Lusignan.” It said these inhumane acts cast a long and disturbing shadow throughout the country and the wider Caribbean.
Secretary-General Edwin Carrington and other Caricom staff “mourn with the entire Guyanese nation and express heartfelt condolences to the families of those slain.” The Secretariat also said it is hopeful that those responsible for this abominable act will be soon apprehended and brought to justice.
