Dear Editor,
Within three weeks of the Lusignan killings we have lost another 12 lives and as usual our government and the main opposition are stuck in their political blame game whilst the lives of innocent Guyanese continue to be snuffed out by this gang.
Although I would like to give the joint services some credit for securing the East Coast of Demerara after the last bloody assault I am convinced that their actions/operations are purely reactive. Based on their most recent approach I wouldn’t be surprised if the joint services set up the next military camp in Bartica although the Bartica killings clearly indicate that this heavily armed gang has the equipment and moral support to allow free movement around the country.
In my last letter after the Lusignan killings I suggested that the government hire a private military contractor to eliminate this gang since our intelligence gathering is poor and moreso because the joint services were infiltrated a long time ago by unprofessional individuals who do not have Guyana’s best interest at heart but our government has resorted to reactivating community policing groups and believe the much delayed Security Sector Reform Act is the perfect master plan that will eliminate crime but it will take at least a few months or possibly years before it becomes fully functional.
President Jagdeo we are losing our citizens(regardless of race) at an alarming rate, we cannot wait on your promised Swat Team, urgent action is needed to eliminate these criminals even if we have to ask our sometimes troublesome neighbour Venezuela for assistance.
All Guyana is counting on you, your government and all politicians to bury the hatchet and erase their fears. It’s not too much to ask for.
Yours faithfully,
D.Ackloo
