Yesterday it was Michelle John’s turn. Beaten in the final of the girls’ 18-years-and-under singles event, John came roaring back to snatch the 21-years-and-under title from her nemesis in a nail-biting encounter that went the full five games, as the national table tennis championships sponsored by the National Sports Commission continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
On the way to securing her remarkable win, John won four straight points staving off two match points in the process after Lowe lead 10-8 in the deciding game.
John triumphed 11-7, 4-11, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10.
In the third place play-off Nigel Bryan added the scalp of Joel Alleyne to his already bulging collection winning 6-11, 10-12, 11-3, 13-11, 11-5.
In the mixed doubles competition, the pairs of Godfrey Munroe and Jody Ann Blake will meet Colin France and Vida Moore in tomorrow’s final.
In the semi-finals Munroe/Blake defeated Lowe/Khan 11-8, 11-9, 4-11, 11-8 and France/Moore won from Franklyn/John 11-5, 6-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9.
The competition continues today.
