A 39-year-old man was placed on $30,000 bail on a charge of assaulting a female police constable when he was brought before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Duane Marshall of 387 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme allegedly hit police special constable Debra Hulder with a piece of iron on December 24 last year at the National Bureau of Statistics office where they both work. It is alleged that the accused and some friends were chatting at the said office when Hulder came on duty and made her regular checks. Marshall allegedly hit her behind the head and she told him to make those jokes with his friends. They ended up in a scuffle resulting in Marshall’s shirt being torn. Hulder returned to the guard hut where Marshall followed and allegedly pulled her outside and hit her with a piece of iron. Hulder said Marshall was drinking, an allegation he denies.
Hulder had a medical which she showed to the magistrate and the prosecutor. However Marshall’s lawyer told the court that the medical only showed bruising, and no injuries resulting from being hit by a piece of iron. The matter returns to Court Three on March 4.
