A 17-year-old ended up at the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment after the police vehicle he was in crashed into a minibus on the Buxton/Friendship public road around 4 pm yesterday.
The youth, Stephon Hollingsworth of 16 Company Road, Buxton was picked up by police in his village and questioned about Guyana’s most wanted man, Rondell `Fineman’ Rawlins. Hollingsworth said he told the officers he did not know anything and was then threatened. He said that he was then thrown into the back of the police pick-up at which time his mother, Michelle Fiffee intervened. Fiffee said when she asked the officers what they were doing with her son they said that they were taking him to the Vigilance police station for questioning. She told them that her son knows nothing and requested his release but they refused. “They put me son to lie down in the pouring rain and drive off with he.” She said that the officers then proceeded to drive all over the village instead of going to the station. Fiffee said that Buxton is like a ghost town, “you can’t walk anyway, they
fear in people children to talk what they ain’t know bout.”
According to Fiffee when the police vehicle was heading east on the public road a minibus was turning into the Friendship road. The two vehicles collided and the minibus ended up in the trench. Fiffee took her son to the hospital because he had hit his head.
Oneeta Bacchus of Buxton was the sole passenger from the minibus at the hospital. She said she hit her head and suffered bruises about the body. She said that luckily only a few passengers were in the minibus.
While this newspaper was still at the hospital heavily armed black clothes ranks and soldiers arrived on the scene and proceeded to search the emergency area. According to a source, the ranks were in search of Hollingsworth and said it was important that they found him or face the ‘music’ of their superiors.
