Dear Editor,
I note with interest that the police have yet to arrest the young man who murdered Dennis Edghill. I also take note that the same young man has been trying his case in the Kaieteur News and implying that Dennis was somehow the aggressor in this episode.
By all accounts, Dennis Edghill was a wonderful young man and was trying to stop his murderer from assaulting the young woman in his company. As the days go by, I along with a number of my friends and colleagues wonder if this crime, like so many others, will go unsolved. Will there be justice for the Edghill family? The full force of the law should be brought to bear on this man who clearly has no respect for women or life. I understand that his mother was present while he was abusing the young woman in his company. It makes one wonder what kind of household he was raised in.
Any man who could hit a woman isn’t much of a man and I don’t know what to say about a man who would hit a woman in the presence of his mother. Too many persons have committed crimes and have simply walked away from it all leaving relatives and friends with the pain of the loss and the frustration for the lack of justice.
I have already sent emails to all and sundry as we need to bring attention to this situation and this murderer needs to be brought to justice.
There is a biblical saying “the sins of the father visit the children unto the third and fourth generation”. I would caution the young man that even if he does not pay for his crime, his future generations will end up paying the price.
Yours faithfully,
Catherine McAdam
Editor’s note
The murder was executed by a friend of the man who was beating the woman, not that man himself.
