Farm Masjid’s Younis Mohammed was the lone batsman to pass the half century mark while Hyde Park from Parika won both their games when action in the Trophy Stall sponsored 15 overs softball tournament continued last Sunday at the Providence and National Insurance Scheme (NIS) grounds respectively.
Playing at the Providence ground, Farm Masjid easily defeated Bourda Market XI by 96 runs in their second match after they won the toss and made 187-6 from their 15 overs.
Mohammed made 71 (5x6s; 3x4s) and received support from Abdul Sadiq who made 38 that was decorated with three sixes as Raymond Dasrat took 2-35 from his three overs.
In reply, Bourda Market XI were bowled out for 91 from 11.2 overs with only Mahendra Persaud who made 20 (2x6s)being the main contributor as Imtiaz Mohammed (3-14) and Patrick Khan (2-15) destroyed the hope of the Market team.
Hyde Park enjoyed double success when they defeated Players XI from West Bank Demerara and Street Boys from Providence respectively.
In their first game against Players played on pitch number one, Players won the toss and were bowled out for 97 from 14.5 overs. Jairam Mohabir (18) and Mandeshwar Persaud (14) were the lone batsmen to offer resistance to the bowling of Dhaniram Lalliram who took 4-12.
Hyde Park in reply knocked off their target reaching 99-3 in just 12.2 overs. Inshan Mohammed (27) and Alim Mohammed (26) led their team to victory.
In their second game, they defeated Street Boys by four wickets to complete a good day in the field.
Asked to take first strike, Street Boys were bowled out for a paltry 58 as Shafeek Mohammed went on a rampage taking 4-16.
Hyde Park knocked off their target for the loss of six wickets in just seven overs as Street Boys made a fight out of it.
Lalliram made 14 while Inshan Mohammed contributed an unbeaten 14. Bowling figures for Street Boys were unavailable.
In other matches, Players suffered a second defeat at the hands of Boom Blast who blasted them away by 82 runs.
Batting first, Boom Blast reached 129-9 from their 15 overs with Avenash Sirpaul making 26 and Akash Sirpaul 25. Sew Persaud took 3-35 for Players who were then bundled out for a meagre 47 from 11 overs.
Only Mandeshwar Persaud with 19 offered resistance with the bat as Ramdial Ramroop took 3-11.
Firecrew XI from Anna Catherina was also in winners ‘row after completing a nail biting two wicket victory over La Grange XI.
La Grange batted first and were bowled out for 114 from 14.2 overs. Ricky Persaud led the batting with 21 (2×6) as Hakeem Khan took 2-14 for Firecrew XI who made 115-8 in reply with one ball to spare.
Brian Felix with 25 and Ricky Singh 14 led the victory charge for their team against the bowling of Jai Khemraj (2-14) and Ram Tulsie (2-19).
Trophy Stall also recorded a victory when they stopped Unstoppable by 60 runs in their match-up.
Batting first, Trophy Stall XI made 116 for the loss of eight wickets from their 15 overs. Mark Harold led the batting with 28 (3x6s) and received support from Rajin Mohammed who made 17 with two sixes.
Nafeez Mohammed took 4-14 bowling for Unstoppable who were halted when they took the crease as Trophy Stall bowled them out for 60 in 13.4 overs.
Better Hope was the only team that did not take to the field as their opponents Unstoppable failed to take the field at the required time in their match-up.
Action in this competition will continue this weekend.
