The Roman Catholic Church says it is praying for the bereaved families of those who were brutally killed at Bartica on Sunday.
In a press release the Church said “At this time of great sorrow we share in your loss, pain and bewilderment.” It said too, in the face of such desolation and anguish it offers prayers for the souls of the dead, their families, the community and the nation.
At the same time the Church emphasises that “the dignity of human life is sacred. It is mirrored in the Divine and expressed in true goodness.” It therefore unreservedly condemns this cowardly and inhuman act and calls upon the nation to do everything necessary to bring an end to the carnage and “give hope to our nation as we celebrate 38 years of our Republic.”
The Church invites all Catholic communities nationwide who will gather for prayers this weekend to include prayers for the grieving families.
