A 28-year-old man was placed on $170,000 bail on charges of uttering a forged document and conspiracy to defraud when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Dwayne Fraser of 271 Patentia Housing Scheme allegedly uttered a forged passport, No.0923739 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri on February 17. He was also charged for allegedly conspiring with persons to forge the said passport during the period of January 1, 2003 and February 20, 2003.
Attorney-at-law Nigel Anthony representing Fraser said that his client had applied for a Guyana passport in 2003 and it was only recently that the passport was found to be forged but his client had no such knowledge. He made an application for reasonable bail.
According to the prosecutor no record of an application for a passport by the defendant was found and the passport he had in his possession was issued to one Dwayne Chase. The defendant allegedly inserted his photograph in the passport and attempted to leave the country with it. The prosecution did not object to bail.
The matter was transferred to Court Five for March 14.
