Dear Editor,
In the past month the letter columns have been filled with anguish. Concerned Guyanese have shared thoughts and emotions that span a spectrum ranging from anger to disbelief to horror. The outpourings have come from all walks, all points, and every persuasion.
A few days ago, I read of the disgust and frustration in the words of letter writing brother Michael Hackett. I say to him-and all others-that we must continue to pen our pain, not only as tribute to those departed, but to whisper for the living. I, for one, have returned from self imposed “retirement” to raise voice, for to do otherwise would be unthinkable.
Our nation has become like a martyred Beckett: savaged as it bows down, gored as it kneels, and murdered as it prays. As men of the quill surrounded by men of the sword, we must continue to persevere.
For in the fullness of time, we too shall prevail and overcome. To all who yearn for a different day, I offer Psalm 121: “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.”
Yours faithfully,
G.H.K. Lall
