A team representing the Sweet Point Snackette on Orange Walk will this afternoon throw down the gauntlet to a team comprising former national players in a one-off match for the Ken Gibbs trophy.
The game will be played at the Parade Ground from 4.30pm and the former national football captain Gibbs himself will lead the former nationals.
Should Gibbs be subsitituted for some reason there would be no need to search for a leader as the former nationals side boasts two other former national captains in Earl O’Neal and Gordon `The Ultimate Warrior” Braithwaite.
Throw in players of the calibre of Mickey Layne, `Sir’ Anthony Stanton, Rudolph `Chow’ Hunte, Vibert `Durdy’ Butts and Terry Nichols and the Sweet Point team will have to be at their sweetest to test the former nationals.
That is not to say that the Sweet Point team will be a pushover. Far from it.
The team will have in its line up former Thomas United player Estwick Northe, Frankie Bispham and Ronald `Pone’ Wiggins.
Striker Linden `Poison’ Boston will lead the hunt for goals with support from Carlyle Bowman and Terrence Wills while Osafa Adams will marshal the defence with assistance from Jermaine Softleigh.
The manager of the team is Ronald `Sweet Hand’ Bettancourt.
Today’s match promises to be an exciting affair as the stars of yesteryear roll back the years in the battle for bragging rights and, of course, the Ken Gibbs trophy.
All roads will certainly lead to the Parade Ground this afternoon.
