The Central Islamic Organi-sation of Guyana (CIOG) says it is dismayed at the slaughter of innocent persons at Bartica and at the continued disregard for the sanctity of life.
“We join with other religious communities to condemn these acts of violence, terror and destruction of life,” the CIOG said in a press release. It said too it is particularly distressed that the “perpetrators of this heinous crime” have also taken the lives of police officers” further demonstrating their “utter disregard for the precious gift of life and law and order which are the foundations and fabric of a stable society.”
The CIOG said it believes that “Whosoever takes the life of an innocent human being, has acted as though he or she has taken the life of all humanity.” Therefore, it calls on all stakeholders to put an end to this reign of terror, respect the sanctity of life and work towards establishing a stable and peaceful society.
The CIOG extends condolences to the bereaved families and prays that Allah gives them the patience and fortitude to overcome this great test. It also urges citizens to be calm and make special prayers for those who have suffered.
