An individual working on a mining camp at Enachu saw a man with a gun in his hand, panicked and created fear in the community leading police to act on reports that the camp was being attacked and robbed by a group of gunmen on Monday.
However, police confirmed yesterday that investigations by the Joint Services have since confirmed that this was not the case.
A police source told Stabroek News that reports reaching the force’s administration from the Enachu Police Station were “the gang” had entered a Brazilian camp called ‘Ready Money’ and that shots may have been fired.
As a consequence, police dispatched a team from Georgetown.
The source said ranks identified the camp and later realized that someone had seen a man with a gun and had become frightened.
The source said ranks who were dispatched have reported that the area is back to normal. The source confirmed too that some persons had started to move from the community after word spread that gunmen were there, but those persons have since returned.
