A 37-year-old man who allegedly stole $3,865,000 worth of goods from a store was yesterday placed on $400,000 bail when he appeared before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Shawn Walts of 27 Evans Street, Charlestown pleaded not guilty to the charge of breaking and entering when it was read to him.
It is alleged that between February 15 and 16 Walts broke and entered a cellular phone store in Georgetown and carted off 149 phones, a value of $2,718,000, and $1,147,000 worth of other electronic items.
Attorney-at-law Ronald Burch-Smith said his client had bought the items from a man and resold them to another who attempted to sell the items to the store from where they were stolen. After the man Walts sold the goods he was taken into police custody and questioned and the goods were traced to Walts who was then held, the attorney said.
The matter was transferred to Court Two and will continue on March 13.
