Dear Editor,
The Registrar of Lands should visit the New Amsterdam Land Registry once a week to pass titles. The Registrar has not visited Berbice since mid December. The end result is that there are hundreds of titles awaiting her signature. Add this to the previous backlog and a clearer picture would emerge.
The situation in New Amsterdam Registry has deteriorated beyond belief. Titles which should be transferred within a matter of days have been delayed in excess of six to nine months. Why must the Registrar come from Demerara to Berbice, would it not be better to have a senior person stationed permanently in Berbice?
To compound matters the Registrar has one assistant who is now solely responsible for all transactions. This assistant is rude, frequently absent and answers to no one.
This administration has done nothing to address this crisis in the New Amsterdam Land Registry.
Yours faithfully,
Victor James
