The Guyana New York and Pele veteran teams will engage each other in the opening game this evening as play in the Mayor’s 73rd birth anniversary seven-a-side inter-ward/village knockout football tournament returns to Thirst Park from 5pm this afternoon.
This will be the first of eight matches planned for the evening as the knockout tournament which was interrupted last week due to inclement weather resumes.
In the second match of the evening scheduled to start at 6pm, Uitvugt will play Laing Avenue and that game will be followed by Sophia taking on Mahaica at 6:30pm.
The action them heats up as Plaisance and Albouystown go head-to-head in the third match followed by West Ruimveldt taking on Goed Fortuin.
Later in the evening Buxton and Tiger Bay will compete against each other while North East La Penitence led by Vibert Weeks will meet an Ann’s Grove.
Meet-en-Meer Zorg will have to overcome captain Royston Burgess and a determined Timehri side if they hope to land a spot in the quarter finals.
And to bring the curtains down on the evening’s matches, Mocha will clash with Pouderoyen.
All of the seven matches that follow the opening games between the Guyana New York and Pele veteran teams are quarterfinal matches which give the winners a chance to move closer to winning the first and second place prizes of $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
