The Mash Secretariat has announced the winners of the Road March, Costume Band and Float Parade and other competitions in this year’s Mashramani celebrations.
A press release from the Ministry of Culture said Michelle ‘Big Red’ King won first place with ‘On de road again’ in the Road March Competition. In the Costume Band and Float Parade Full Costume category the Ministry of Education placed first in the ‘small’ grouping and Region Four placed second. The Ministry of Health placed first, Region Three second and the Mayor and City Council third in the ‘medium’ Costume Band Parade. In the ‘large’ grouping the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport were the winners with runners-up Facts ‘N’ Roses and Concept Entertainment.
The Ministry of Local Government placed first in the ‘small’ Semi-Costume category while the Guyana Forestry Commission placed first and the Ministry of Agriculture second in the ‘medium’ group. Slingshot was the winner in the ‘large’ grouping followed by The Body of Christ and the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union, in the same category.
In the Individual Costume category the Health Ministry was crowned ‘king’, and, in addition to being crowned ‘queen’, Facts ‘N’ Roses also won in the male and female groupings of this category. Meanwhile, the Culture Ministry won in the Non-Commercial Float category; Concept Entertainment won in the Commercial Float group and Facts ‘N’ Roses won in the Animal Float category.
Region Four won in the ‘small’ Full Costume category of the Regional Costume Band and Float Parade. Regions Three, Five and Ten secured the top three spots, respectively, in the ‘medium’ grouping. No places were recorded in the ‘large’ grouping in this category similarly no places were recorded in the Semi-Costume category. Meanwhile, Region Four was crowned ‘king’ and ‘queen’ in the Individual Costume category. No places were recorded for the ‘male’ grouping in this category but Region Three won the ‘female’ grouping.
