Dear Editor,
The Speaker of the House, Mr Ralph Ramkarran, should be congratulated for his appropriate and statesmanlike address which he delivered in Orlando, Florida on the occasion of Guyana’s 38th anniversary as a republic. He should be commended particularly, for the manner in which he dealt with the issue of crime and its relationship to poverty. Mr Ramkarran’s remarks take on additional significance in the context of the present crime situation in Guyana. His words are also pertinent to the current discourse by the various political and social stakeholders meeting.
In this time of sorrow and darkness in the Guyanese society, Mr Ramkarran’s remarks help to shine some light at the end of the tunnel. It is hoped that he will continue to offer his mature political leadership, experience and wisdom in the effort to obtain security and democracy in the Guyanese society.
Yours faithfully,
Raj Williams
