Dear Editor,
As you are aware the cost for a new machine readable passport is now four thousand as against one thousand dollars for the old one.
The four thousand dollar fee is already high but since a passport is a necessary document Guyanese will strain and pay.
However when a passport is lost or damaged the applicant now has to pay fifteen thousand dollars for a replacement. This is most unfair, before the introduction of this new passport the fee for a replacement for a lost or damaged passport was the same one thousand dollars. That fifteen thousand dollars represents a whole month’s pay for some female workers.
Yours faithfully,
Wendell P George
