A 32-year-old man was remanded over carnal knowledge of a girl under 15 years when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Christian Williams of 170 Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the indictable charge of carnal knowledge of an 11-year-old girl. In defence of his client, Attorney-at-law Randolph Eleazar said that another man had been remanded for the alleged offence that took place on February 26 at Supply, East Bank Demerara. He made an application for bail but the prosecution objected.
Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith told the court that the child was indeed molested by Williams. She said the girl complained to her head teacher at school and was taken to the hospital for a medical checkup, which proved that she was sexually abused.
The bail application was refused and Williams has to return to court on Friday.
