A businessman was yesterday held at gunpoint and robbed of a large quantity of cash by two gunmen who had obviously been watching his every move.
Police said Omar Sheriff of Station Street, Kitty had some $9 million in his possession and had just exited his car to conduct business at the Western Union, Church Street location, when the bandits struck.
An eyewitness said the man had just gotten out of his car when an armed man approached him, snatched a bag with the money and then fled on a waiting motorcycle.
“By the time he ketch he self and pull out he gun and start lick shots, then boys already ride away,” the man said.
A resident said she heard the gunshots but was afraid and did not venture outside until she saw persons staring in the direction of Western Union.
She said that is when she learnt that someone had been robbed.
A police statement yesterday said investigations revealed that Sheriff had earlier withdrawn the money from various banks in the city and had gone to a business place in Church Street to do business.
As he exited his vehicle, he was held at gunpoint by the man who took away the bag with the cash and escaped on a waiting motorcycle.
Police said Sheriff discharged several rounds from his licensed firearm at the fleeing bandits who managed to escape.
