Dear Editor
Mr Tacuma Ogunseye asked the question: “Where else in the world can be found a parallel situation which sees the security forces in a country adopting torture as a weapon of crime fighting?” (Stabroek News, February 29). The answer is Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib and Extraordinary Rendition. Moreover, countries such as the UK jail suspects, almost entirely Muslims, for 42 days without charge, trial and access to family and friends.
While I do not condone these practices, we should face reality that what we have in Guyana is terrorism with conceivably a political dimension. And, in such circumstances, countries, such as the US and UK, leave no stone unturned to protect all its citizens and the security of the state
Yours faithfully,
D Ramprakash
