Former Pele F.C and National Goalkeeper Cecil Jacques was elected president of Pele Football Club when the club held its Annual General Meeting recently at the Waterchris Hotel Boardroom on Waterloo Street.
Jacques familiarly known as `Carey 747′ in football circles, replaced Royston Erskine who served the club in that capacity for the last four years.
Jacques, a pharmacist by profession, brings numerous years of experience as a player and an administrator of football to this new administration.
The other members of the eleven (11) man Executive Committee elected to serve for the next two years following an amendment to the club’s constitution are as follows;
First Vice President – Terrence Archer, a former Pele F.C and National football stalwart and banker.
Second Vice President – Andre Joseph, a mechanical engineer and businessman.
Secretary – Alan La Rose.
Treasurer – Jevita Kryenhoff, economist turned professional nurse
Assistant Secretary /Treasurer is Floyd Duesbury caterer/businessman and the lone official returned from the previous administration
Three Committee Members are Allister Parris and Clive Perry both former Pele F.C players now businessmen, along with Leyland Johnson a telecommunications technician and ardent supporter of Pele F.C
The Technical Director – Vibert “Durdy” Butts former Pele F.C and National player
Club Captain – Dirk Archer a current National Player.
President of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Troy Mendonca was present and delivered the charge to the new officer challenging them to make a difference and informing them of the sacrifices and hard work which need to be invested.
Already, a work-plan covering over 15 activity areas has been drafted and includes focus on attracting corporate sponsorship, discipline, football technical development and players’ welfare and social development and fund raising. Five sub committees were formed to assist with the implementation of the work plan.
Also, cooperation and support have been committed from past Pele F.C players who now reside in the USA, with Marc Joseph a former player and coach of Pele F.C, Mr. Lyndon “Pin Head” Laign and Ossie Taylor, both former players, will be coordinating the process and activities planned.
