A 27-year-old man who allegedly grabbed a schoolgirl’s crotch after she refused to dance with him on Mashramani Day was yesterday taken before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Quincy Alexander of Lot 53 Meadow Brook Gardens, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawfully assaulting the 16-year-old. He also denied unlawfully and maliciously inflicting bodily wounds on Olwin Williams who was also charged with wounding him.
It is alleged that on Mash Day the girl and two friends were dancing at the corner of the road where the Mash parade was to pass.
Alexander asked the girl for a dance and when she refused he stamped her toe. Upon protesting at this Alexander then grabbed the girl’s crotch and refused to let go. At this point Williams reportedly intervened and demanded that the man stop harassing the girl.
According to Williams, he did not have any physical contact with Alexander and therefore could not have inflicted any wounds on the man’s body. Williams said he attempted to stop the man from harassing the young woman.
All parties involved in the matter were instructed to approach the bench and after listening to what each person had to say Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle placed each of the accused on $20,000 bail and the matter is to continue on March 28.
