Magistrate Geeta Chandan Persid-Edmond on Wednes-day remanded to prison a man accused of murdering another at Sandhills, Berbice River, when he appeared to answer to the charges at the Reliance Court.
It is alleged that between March 1 and 2 Dave Banwari, 26, murdered Rakesh Rajaram.
Banwari was not required to plead to the indictable offence. The deceased and the accused are said to be “charcoal makers” in the Berbice River.
Elmo Benedict, who was not present in court yesterday, is charged jointly with Banwari. Police Prosecutor Corporal Phillip Sheriff requested that an arrest warrant be issued for Benedict.
Reports are that the two men chopped Rajaram about the body and beat him with a piece of wood at a camp while he was with a female with whom he shared a relationship.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam Hospital around 6.45 pm on Saturday.
The post-mortem report said the man died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to multiple wounds.
The case has been transferred to the New Amsterdam Court for March 28 for report.
