The West Side Cup, Easter round robin knockout football competition organized by the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) will kick off this evening with a double header at the Den Amstel ground from 6pm.
In the feature game at 8pm Pouderoyen will engage Beavers while Parika will oppose Den Amstel at 6pm.
The competition features some 10 of the West Demerara Football Associa-tion’s affiliated teams, vying for over $90,000 in cash incentives and trophies.
The first, second and third place winners will receive $50,000, 25,000, 15,000 which will all be accompanied by trophies, while fourth placed finishers will receive trophies .
The teams have been divided into two groups with each team playing each other once in their respective groups and the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals.
There will be three points awarded for a win and one point for each draw but this is only applicable in the round robin stage of the competition.
Group A consists of Beavers, Young Achiever, Pouderoyen, Crane and Wales while Meten-Meer-Zorg, Den Amstel, Parika, Stewartville and Uitvulgt have been place in group B.
Teams are also reminded to bring a suitable size-five football whenever their teams are scheduled to play.
The tournament continues on Sunday at the same venue.
